House News

October 15. Closing date. We bought the house. And we’re very excited.

It’s been a whirlwind week. Financing. Negotiations. Carpet. Paint. Scheduling. We’re trying to run a number of processes in parallel and it’s a lot to keep track. But we have had help. My mom has watched the girls while we research projects and the Barnes have helped organize the schedule to get us into our new home. The plan is to move in on October 30. That leaves two weekends to prep the house.

We will be painting the entire interior of the house on October 23rd. The day after closing, we will be sanding down some walls, re-texturing and prepping the house for primer and paint. We have a handful of other projects and if you are inclined to help, we’d love to have you join us. We’re planning on the big workday being the 23rd. Food and equipment will be provided (and an excellent workday soundtrack). We have a deck to remove, foliage to extract, walls to paint, windows to seal and pizza to eat. If you’d like to join us, please email me at tyler.tmartin@gmail.com. If you are a friend of Tiffany’s on Facebook, feel free to message her there and we’ll send you an invitation to the Facebook event page.

Needless to say we are beside ourselves with excitement. The neighborhood is great. The house is cozy. And we’ve got fantastic neighbors. Thank you for all the kind words and prayers you’ve shared with us since we mentioned the house earlier this week. We look forward to inviting you into our new home.

I will post a more substantial update tomorrow about Claire and her progress. Thanks again and sleep tight.

  1. I am so excited for you all that this house came through! Wish I could come help you make it ready to move in, even though I can’t eat pizza (lactose intolerance, like Grandma Joann). I pray that everything gets done on time, that all the organizational work necessary falls into place, that you fall over yourselves with volunteers.

Will the girls have to change schools? How are they taking the idea of the move? I pray they’re as excited as you and Tiffany are.

Praying also that Claire adapts well to her new home too.

So happy for you all! It will be good to be able to spread out a little for company.

    Love, Dodie

    1. Hey Dodie:
The girls are going to stay at their current school at least until next year. We’ll reevaluate then. They weren’t sure about moving at first, but the next day they were ready to go especially when they found out they would be staying at their school. They are excited to have stairs and friends down the street. πŸ™‚

  3. Happy for you guys. I was wanting to come help paint, but I have a workshop that
day that I have already paid for:(

  4. Tyler & Tiffany –
I’m so glad to hear that you have found a new house to bring your beautiful Claire and her sisters into. It makes me sad that I am not in Dallas anymore and cannot lend a helping hand with the move. Also – I have started in my 3rd and final internship for Physical Therapy school. I am working in an adult orthopedic outpatient clinic and am realizing more and more every day how much I miss my work in pediatrics at Baylor – especially working with Claire and your family. Claire was one of my first patients on my internship at OCH and I will never forget her, or your family. I continuously tell people about her amazing story of survival, and being able to play an (albeit small) part in her recovery makes my decision to become a PT completely worth while. Please continue to post updates on Claire, b/c you have no idea how impactful your family’s story is on other people’s lives. I hope to someday make it back to Dallas, and possibly be able to visit Claire Bear – maybe a visit to the pool (minus the fire alarm?) for old times sake πŸ™‚ And some new pictures of all the girls would be much appreciated!

    1. Brita-
You are so sweet. You are one of my fondest memories of OCH. Thank you for staying updated with us and for your encouragement! I hope you will make it back to Dallas sometime and can visit us! We would love it!
Congratulations on almost finishing your internships!

  5. Congrats on the house! I pray that it fits all your needs and it helps you adjust to this new life. We got a new house after the accident as a start over for us. I think of you guys often and pray for little Claire. You guys are doing an amazing job. You are in our hearts always! God bless!!!!!

  6. Tyler and Tiffany,

I have been one of your anonymous readers for three or four months now. I found out about your story from a friend who knows you from church. I just wanted to tell you how happy I am that you have closed on this new house. It will be a fresh start for all of you and place where you can enjoy new triumphs with Claire. I wish you all the blessings your hearts can hold as you make this new house yours.

    Sincerely,
    Melissa James

Congratulations on your new home! May it be blessed with lots of love, laughter, family, and friends! (as it already sounds like it is!) As always, you all are in our thoughts and daily prayers.

  10. Fun, exciting, and lots of work! Glad you have so many helpers near you.
I know you will make the house look beautiful [ any color plans yet? Love that stuff! Maybe Tiffany could post a list? [ or pics after rooms are done! ]]
    Care to the caregivers;
hugs, love, and prayers to all:

  11. How wonderful! I’m happy for all of you and so delighted to sense your joy and excitement. We’ll pray for successful house projects and smooth transitions for everyone. Can’t wait to come visit you in your new abode. πŸ™‚

  12. So happy to hear that you’ve bought a house! What a terrific new memory to begin building on. I imagine all of you are tremendously excited and happy. For some reason, I didn’t get the notice that you were even looking for a house, so today’s post was brand-new news to me. What does it look like — or have you revealed any of that info yet? I’m sure you’ll get plenty of willing friends to help you with the fix-up project. I’m not a DIYer at all, which is why professional handymen love me! The best to all of you in your new venture — and always more wishes for everything good for you, Tiffany and your beautiful girls.

  13. What great news!! I am very excited that your faimily will soon have a new home. I will do whatever I can to lend a helping hand, just let me know. Your actual work day is going to be challenging due to my son’s football playoffs, but I can come late and work as late as you need me to. If some of the work can be done before that date, let me know and I will do everything I can to be there. It has been said that a family is what makes a house a home, and if this is true, your family is going to have one amazing home!
