Tuesday, July 20: Update

Today’s Care Conference focused on what we can expect over our last week at OCH as we prepare to take Claire home. OCH has been great at coordinating the partners we will need at home: food supplies, meds, equipment and therapy schedules have been handled by someone on our Care team while we provide the inputs. It has helped alleviate the stress and the confusion. There is a lot to put in order and we feel that OCH has accelerated us along the learning curve.

Our conference ended and we were on our way to Claire’s fourth aquatic therapy session. Claire had a great ride over to the rehab center and chilled poolside while we waited for her therapists. All that changed when she entered he water. Claire didn’t take kindly to the pool this time and needed some extra coaxing before she settled down. But when she did settle down, she did so in a big way: Claire was more alert during today’s session than any of the previous three. We enjoyed watching Brita, Claire’s physical intern therapist, carry Claire in the water. She did a great job settling Claire down. Claire enjoyed sitting upright in the water and let Brita know she did not want to recline. This was the last time Claire will be at the Baylor Rehab Center and we will remember it fondly, fire alarms and all.

Tomorrow is Claire’s early morning procedure for phenol and Botox injections. We are anticipating a great outcome and look forward to updating you on her results. Thank you for the continued support!

  1. Thank you for the updates. I’m still following Claire’s story from afar, and praying nightly. I’m so happy that she is becoming more alert, God is working for your family and for Claire! Wishing you the best as you make the transition from hospital to home, may God be with you and hold you up every step of the way šŸ™‚
You are a gifted writer, and your posts here remind me to stay grounded and thankful for all that I have in life, for this I hold my own daughter a little closer every night, and for that I thank you.
My prayers are continually with you and your wonderful family, God bless you all now and always.

  2. Cute pic in the pool! We’ll be thinking of Claire tomorrow morning during her procedure. She’ll be in good hands (His hands). Speaking of hands, have you seen the cool hand exhibit at Baylor? It’s in one of the main building lobbies along Gaston, first floor (I think), if you’re up for a little walk one day.

    All the best,
    Karen

  3. Tyler, thinking and praying for y’all. Be back in town soon and cannot wait to see the girls!!! Please give them all hugs. I am grateful for Claire’s progress and will lift her up specifically tomorrow during her procedure.

  4. I’m so thankful for all the people who helped y’all down this difficult road…it truly takes a special someone who can be gentle and loving to a strange child, and it appears God has blessed you with the right people.

    Prayers continue.

  8. Greetings,
I have been reading your updates daily since Claire’s aunt, Krissy, originally posted her situation on Facebook. We know Krissy from her time in Washington State and cherish the time our children spent together!!
Claire is such an amazing person who grows millions each day I read the posts. From her defience, achievements, frustrations, and her triumphs – she has come so far and I feel confident she will only grow into such an amazing person.
To Claire’s wonderful sisters – stay strong and remember your little Claire is just waiting to continue all the wonderful things you three were doing prior to this accident.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Thank you for continuing to share her progress. It fills my heart to see her achievements each day – whethere they are big or small.
    CLAIRE – YOU GO GIRL!!!

  9. Still praying for sweet Claire and her sisters, and for you and your wife. Just want you to know that many people hold you up in prayer and in our hearts, even though we have never met. Love in Christ.

  10. He’s got the whole world in His hands, surely little Claire is right there in his palm. Continued prayers for all of u. Tyler your writings are an inspiration and blessing to all. U have a special gift with words. Please keep it up and one small question.. I notice what look to me to be quilt patterns on the ends of each comment. Is Tiffany by any chance a quilter? just found it interesting as I am one. Feel the love and concern from friends near and far. God will take care of u – all of u. PEACE

  11. Praying for Claire’s procedure this morning. May peace rule in your hearts and pray that all things will fall into place regarding the transition home. I am reminded that God’s power is made perfect in our weakness and am thankful for our beautiful family. Claire will be home again and that is a blessing. I imagine she will thrive there more than in a hospital.
As always, I love you guys.
    Michelle

  12. I read your updates daily, and I can see the progress. It must be hard for all of you but just know that so many people are praying and thinking of all of you daily. Claire looks so good in this picture. Love, Joane

  13. I have been keeping Claire in my prayers and close to my heart. As I have all of you. Last night and this morning my prayer is that God will guide the Doctors as they place the injections and go through this procedure with God marking the exact spots that will help Claire! Your story was not shared with us by chance and we are here with you always.

  14. I wanted you to know that I haven’t forgotten. I am still praying. Love seeing pictures. Thank you for including them to give us a visual of what she is going through each day.

  15. Thinking about you always, Claire. You are amazing and the progress you are making is wonderful. keep up the good work. You are making your mommy and daddy very proud! If only half of the people in this world had your strength, sweetie! You are too cute and I can’t wait to hear about all the success you are going to make at home. One day at a time right. You will get through this. I know of a person who was in a serious car and accident 4 years ago and was told there is no way he will ever walk again….guess what? he is walking! Miracles do happen and I am confident you are going to one of them! Praying for you baby! Take good care!!!! I think about you all the time! Karen

  16. We pray that all will go well for all of you with Claire being able to go home. We’re sure her sisters are excited that she’s going to be home again.

Thank you so much for the pictures that you post along with your updates. It’s good to see how Claire is doing with her therapy.

  19. I just read a little bit on Claire’s story. My heart broke when I began to read what happened and the trials you, your family and claire has been through. Claire seems to be a real fighter and good for her. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I wish I could do more. I have a daughter that will be three in September and would be a shell of a person if anything happened to her. You and your family are an inspiration in strength. God bless you and your family and of course, Claire.
