One thing I neglected to mention last night is some of the support that we have here in Dallas. I can’t name everyone but want people to know that my in-laws Ed & Sarah flew in Monday afternoon, my mom Susie and my sister Emily flew in Monday morning and my Dad is flying in today. We have had a number of offers for help with Autumn and Heidi and as this progresses we will be coordinating that help to give them a break.
Now the updates:
Last night my mom and I were bedside with Claire and got to see a pupil test. The on-duty nurse Andrew showed us that she is having noticeable response to light on her eyes. With each update like this I want to caution that it is not a definitive indicator of the outcome, but it is a sign that we’re headed in the right direction. More importantly it strengthens our hope and resolve.
They also started a nutrition plan yesterday for Claire to give her body the energy it’s going to need for the fight ahead. A monitor to track micro changes in her blood levels was also connected to her which is tracking organ activity and oxygen use in the brain. The monitors are showing positive trends right now.
An infection specialist was ordered by yesterday’s on-call doctor to monitor the signs of infection they’d seen yesterday. Claire’s white blood cell count was a little high yesterday indicating a possible infection. We changed to two other antibiotics to fight the infection. The infection specialist told us that they were strengthening her antibiotics and we should expect the results of her cultures later today.
The work to prepare us and set our expectations has also started. We were cautioned last night to expect that Claire will go through some withdrawals as some of the medications are stopped. The doctors will introduce a couple of other medications to deal with the withdrawal symptoms. We were also told to expect that some straps will be added to her wrist to keep her from reaching up and pulling out tubes as she comes out of sedation. While the idea of our girl strapped to the bed is stark, we’re reminding ourselves that if she has to be strapped down it’s because she’s moving and responding: we want her to move and respond.
One note about Claire’s night nurse Andrew: we came down to Claire and found her hair brushed and in a purple bow. Andrew has been taking great care of her and he has our gratitude. We will be mentioning some of her other bedside care providers later as well who has been just as awesome as Andrew.
As we get the culture results back we’ll continue to update.
You guys raise ’em strong in body, love and faith. Thank god for all your family support system- and Andrew, he sounds like an amazingly compassionate nurse! Love you guys & thinking about you all the time….
Thank God for such an amazing medical staff! This reminds me of why I am going to be a nurse! Thank you for the update!

Yay for Claire! I can’t wait to see her pretty bow! Last night, Evan and I were talking about how Claire would respond to the tubes when she wakes up. He was really concerned that she would be scared. This post will be helpful to explain more to him. See you this afternoon!

Tyler
Thank you Kristen for doing CPR!!!
Many, many prayers for Claire, you guys and the medical staff caring for her!
I have spread the blog to my friends and ask them to pray, just as my MOPS friends have informed me and asked me. You all are in the hearts and minds and prayers of so many. Thank you for creating a blog to keep us updated as we stand and believe and ask for every miracle needed.
When I read what Andrew did my eyes filled with tears. What a kind and loving thing to do. It touched me deeply.
I’m Grandma Joann’s sister, praying hard for Claire. I’ve put her on several prayer chains here in Seattle, plus WI, CA and MT. Prayer helps, whether the pray-ers know Claire or not. We all feel for her, and for all of you. I’m so glad for this blog, and to know about that purple bow Andrew put in her hair! It means not only is she getting the best medical care possible, she’s getting the best compassionate care possible. Love to you all, through all of this. The whole family, meaning all those who care for you, is with you. God be with you. Love from Grandma Rae too, who doesn’t use the computer. Dodie
Many prayers for Claire, and your family.
If you need anything at all, please let me know.
Hi Tyler and Tiffany,
I am a friend of Dan & Susie’s through the Klemmer work. I want you to know that I am with you in prayer and have tons of friends all over the world that are praying, too. God is a good God, and He wants only good things for His kids. He is a Healer of physical infirmities… Jehovah-Rapha (or Ropha)… see Exodus 15:26 and many other examples in both the Old and New Testaments.
In fact, please allow me to make a heartfelt suggestion to you. I encourage you to go get some CD’s or mp3’s that have Healing scriptures, teaching, song lyrics on them and play them 24/7 at Claire’s bedside in the hospital… low level, just enough to get into her subconscious and speak to her spirit. You can call Kenneth Copeland Ministries and they will send you a Healing Wellness Pack for free that has a couple great CD’s. And while you’re waiting for that to arrive, you can probably find some good stuff online to download. The key, though, is to get stuff that is definitely based on the Word of God around His willingness and ability to heal in ALL situations. Some stuff out there that is labeled “Christian” is full of unbelief, and we only want to BELIEVE that Claire is healed in Jesus Name, Amen.
Also, I encourage you to take your bible and READ OUT LOUD TO CLAIRE at her bedside – read Healing scriptures, and psalms and proverbs, and stories in the New Testament of Jesus healing people… Read them as if you were reading a bedtime story to her. And where appropriate, substitute HER NAME for the you’s and I’s and other names, so the scripture is made personal to her. Like the CD’s, reading to her and speaking words of LIFE to her will minister to her spirit and declare to the atmosphere (and the enemy) that you are standing in faith for her healing, and that she WILL rise and walk. Doing this will encourage, comfort and strengthen you as well.
I recently was treated for breast cancer… 6 months of chemotherapy and a couple surgeries, etc… and the only times I ever felt rested and refreshed and strengthened during the dark hours and long nights was when I had my CD’s playing in the background either at home or in the hospital. Even teaching (talking) tapes on Healing, although no melody, still would sooth my soul and allow me to rest my mind and my body. And speaking the Scripture was powerful too, although I often didn’t even have the energy for that. And the Praise Report is that I AM HEALED, Amen!!
I know you don’t know me, so thank you for allowing me to share my heart. I am standing in faith with you for Claire’s complete physical healing NOW, in Jesus’ Name, and will not stop praying until she is home running around the yard and sleeping in her bed!! If I can be of assistance to you in any way, please let me know.
Blessings and LOVE to you all ~
xoxo,
Barbara
