Thursday, June 3: Update 1

I finished talking to the doctor and we have our marching orders for the day. As I mentioned in the previous update, the doctors are encouraged by Claire’s progress. We still don’t know the extent of her injuries, but we’re headed in the right direction.

We have an MRI scheduled for 12:30 PM CDT today which will give us more data to analyze. Claire will be further sedated to make sure she stays still for up to an hour while in the machine. We’ve been told to expect the test results within an hour after completing the MRI. I’ll post the results as soon as we get them.

The doctor also told us that he’d like to have Claire off the ventilator completely by the close of the day today. We’ll continue to watch her progress and adjust that plan as necessary.

The doctor’s words about her eyes when he did the test this morning were, “They are responding briskly.”

These varying sizes and degrees of steps have all be positive. The doctors continue to caution that we have a long journey ahead and we still have some looming questions. We hope to have some more clarity by the end of today.

As always, thank you for your prayers and support.

  1. Thank you for such a detailed report. The pictures put into perspective the trauma you are going through. Please know that the prayers continue to be said and will continue to be said for Claire. God bless you and I believe you have a hedge of His protection surrounding you.

  2. I am so glad that you are posting updates frequently!! I pass them along to my “praying angels” list and they, in turn, are passing them along to their prayer chain lists! Little Claire is being covered by prayers in the U.S. and Europe! We will continue to pray for not only Claire but for all the family. Clifford and I have “been there” with the “not knowing” when we almost lost Dana twice as a baby! Isn’t it wonderful to know we have the Almighty God that we can lean on! We will continue to pray without ceasing!!!
    Love and prayers!!!

  12. I know you guys must be so anxious to get the results of the MRI (me too). I am hoping and praying for the best results possible.

She looks so beautiful and I can’t believe how far she has come already since Sunday.

  13. Tyler & Tiffany, Claire, and Summer and Autumn,
I’m praying right now for all of you, trusting our God who is all-wise and all-powerfull to do his good work and continue to show us progress in Claire’s responses that the doctors want to see. I’m praying that the MRI will be a positive and encouraging report and that we can expect and hope for more progress and tangible signs from Claire. I know Jesus sees her tears and is holding her precious body in his hands right now. I ask for his grace and mercy as the doctors put things together in a clearer picture for you today. Know that we are holding you all up to him through these days.
    In His Care,
    Anna Erickson and family

  14. I am yet another person that you personally do not know, but I have been made aware of your family’s current situation. I am praying for you and your family during this trying time. God will give you the strength you need to in order to get through this time. He is providing little Claire the will and strength to fight. That, along with your love, she will make it through this.

  15. Isaiah40:29
He gives power to the weak( Your strength is made perfect in her weakness Lord!), And to those who have no might He increases strength.( Greater is he that is in Claire than he that is in the world) 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, ( the righteous man falls down 7 times but keeps getting up! Claire is a fighter! )31 But those who wait on the LORD( We wait in YOU Lord) Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary (Please give Tyler and Tiffany the endurance to keep up with Claire when you restore her running legs! 😉 ), They shall walk and not faint (I would have fainted unless I believed I’d see the goodness of the Lord in the Land of the Living!).
God is Good all the time!! Thanks for all the posts!
    Love, hugs and blessings!!

  22. Tyler,

Our Children’s House at Baylor is a wonderful place. We used to volunteer there and visit the children with our animal-assisted therapy dog, Dodger. Ya’ll should be in great hands for Claire’s rehab.
